Jessie
Jessie! The rootinest, tootinest cowgirl in the Wild West!
She’s brave. She’s bold. She’s adventurous, full of energy, and always ready to jump into action. She also has a wonderful friendship with her trusty horse, Bullseye!
Yet beneath all that courage, we learn that Jessie also lives with fear.
In Toy Story 2, we discover that Jessie was abandoned by her original owner, a young girl named Emily. Bless poor Jessie’s heart—being placed inside a box brings back the terrifying memory of that abandonment.
Because Emily left her, Jessie is afraid to allow herself to be loved again. After all, if someone you love has left you once, what is stopping someone else from doing it again?

God does not forget or abandon His people.
I love the verse at the top of this devotional. In Isaiah 49:15, God says that even if it were possible for a mother to forget her own child, “I will not forget you!”
How amazing is that?!
Sometimes our anxiety whispers that we have been forgotten, overlooked, or left behind. But God answers those fears with a promise: I will not forget you!
We hear the Lord repeat this truth throughout Scripture:
Though my father and mother forsake me,
the Lord will receive me.
Psalm 27:10
Then, in the New Testament, we read:
God has said,
“Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.”
Hebrews 13:5
Jesus Himself makes the same promise:
I will not leave you as orphans;
I will come to you.
John 14:18
Again and again, God tells us the truth:
I will not forget you.
I will receive you.
I will never leave you.
I will not leave you orphaned.
You are not forgotten. You are not abandoned. You are not alone.
I don’t want to spoil anything for you...but in Toy Story 5, we get to see Jessie’s story continue in a powerful way. It was amazing—and absolutely worth the wait!
Maybe you currently feel like you are waiting on the Lord. Maybe you feel boxed in, set aside, or even forgotten.
If that is where you find yourself today, I encourage you to stay faithful. Don’t give up!
PLEASE—I BEG YOU—KEEP GOING, FRIEND!
Waiting does not mean that God has forgotten you. Silence does not mean that He is absent. And a closed box does not mean that your story is over.
As long as there is breath in your lungs, God can still be working in you and through you. Paul gives us this promise:
Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. -Philippians 1:6
God has not forgotten you. He has not abandoned what He began in you.
Your story is not over.
