Forky-September 1
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

As we start a new month-we thought we'd take this opportunity to write the devotionals using the characters from Toy Story as our inspiration! Our first character we want to discuss is...
Forky

Are you surprised we picked Forky to go first?! We love Forky! He was my personal new favorite character when Toy Story 4 came out. I love his humor, I love his determination (even if he is having quite the existential crisis), but ultimately I loved how he grew and continues to grow as a spork! (I mean have you seen his series: Forky Asks a Question on Disney+?! He asks some hard hitting questions, my personal favorite: What is Love?)
Bonnie saw something in Forky. She took some odd and end pieces from arts and crafts and created him to be a new toy for herself. But Forky had such a hard time accepting that. He didn't think of himself as new "toy" material. He just thought he was trash. And unfortunately that is what Forky wanted to stay: litter, scraps. Luckily-he had a friend like Woody who refused to let Forky look at himself as just trash...

Luckily-he had a friend like Woody who refused to let Forky look at himself as just trash...
In the clip above: Forky says when he thinks about being trash he says "It's warm, it's cozy, and safe! Like somebody's whispering in your ear: 'Everything is going to be okay.'"
Woody aptly corrects him saying: "That's how Bonnie feels when she's with you!"
That is when Forky has an epiphany...sort of. Forky realizes he is Bonnie's and he wants to run back as quickly as possible to be with her. Unfortunately-Forky still thinks he is trash, but he wants to be back with his creator/kid/friend more than anything. And also sadly he never get's over thinking he's trash...but at least he now believes he's "Bonnie's trash".
Sometimes I'm afraid we think the same about ourselves. We beat ourself up, say discouraging things to ourself, we speak down to ourself, instead of realizing we were created for a reason. We were created for a purpose. We were created by a Maker who loves us enough to want to spend Eternity with us! But we sometimes just see our faults, our self as trash, instead of one loved by the God of the Universe.
I beg you: talk to yourself more graciously. Don't accept the lies that you are trash/garbage/not good/not worthy. Thanks to Jesus: we are fully reconciled! (Being made "at one" with God, where the debt of sin is addressed and fellowship is renewed.)
"God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." 2 Corinthians 5:21
Less trash talk; more Jesus filled truth in our minds! See ya tomorrow friends! -Zac
